“The supreme luxury of seeing and listening to Mother Nature”

Quinta do Chocalhinho is a hub to access the whole beauty of the Alentejo Coast

At Quinta do Chocalhinho, Mother Nature is present on all fronts. On one side, hand in hand with the Ocean, lies an extension of beautiful beaches and maritime life. As close as 20 minutes, you reach the beaches of Odeceixe, Zambujeira do Mar, Almograve or Milfontes, among many others. On the other side, the Alentejo breaks into the landscape, with its hills full of sun and native vegetation.

Beyond the Mira River, located in a protected zone of the Alentejo, stands the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina, which stretches for more than 100 kilometers, from the North point, in São Torpes / Sines, to Burgau beach, to the south, already in the Algarve, very close to the tip of Sagres.

This is a region with a distinct fauna and flora. The coastal zone is marked by its cliffs that cut the beaches to the strength of the waves from the sea. It is an ample space for discovery and adventure, with a diversified touristic offer, which highlights the gastronomy that blends the good flavours of the typical Alentejo with what comes from the rustle in the Atlantic, not putting aside what flourishes in the vegetable garden.

  • The ideal hub to reach the whole region, between the sea and the countryside.

  • To enjoy the Nature and fresh air in full.

  • The change to reach Quinta on foot.

“To get to know SW Portugal
you need to feel the earth beneath your feet”

Adjacent to the Quinta is also the Rota Vicentina, a flow of pedestrian paths created by local entities to encourage tourism. This is the result of a meticulous work, across the length and breadth of the region, with the selection and signage of pre-existing trails and paths used by the local populations, that form an itinerary that now extends for more than 500 km, covering almost all the coast of the Southwest. And what is now offered to visitors is a memorable experience of Nature Tourism, born from the need to endow this coast with an environmental, cultural and economic sustainability.

Fishermen’s Trail

4 sections and 5 circuits | 120 km

Always running along the coastline, it follows the trails used by locals to get to the beaches and hot fishing spots. It is a single track along the cliffs, with plenty of sand, which can only be travelled by foot, and more demanding from a physical point of view.

Historical Way

12 sections | 230 km

Comprised mainly of rural trails, this is a classic Grand Route (GR), fully accessible to hikers and mountain bikers, with stretches of cork tree forests, mountain ranges, valleys, rivers and creeks, in a true journey through time, local culture and nature trails.

Circular Routes

8 Routes | 90 km

These are short routes with start and finishing points right in the same place, so that it becomes even easier to discover the pleasure of walking in the Sw of Portugal, without transfers, complications and with a duration of just half a day or less.

One step from the Quinta

And all this tangle of sensations and flavours comes pouring into Quinta do Chocalhinho, with its valleys and hills, located two kilometers from Odemira and its river. It is about 70 hectares crossed by tracks lined with centenary olive trees, cork trees and fruit trees that transport us to the rolling hills where one enjoys a surprising landscape. On Thursday the pulsar of the natural landscape sprouts with every look.

These are the plans for the discovery of this space. A good walk with a picnic and the intimacy with nature; do some bird watching, check the biological vegetable garden. In the end, a retempering swim in the saltwater pool will open the way for the evening rest, with the melodious background of the birds that chose this piece of territory for their habitat.

At Quinta do Chocalhinho where, with comfort, one has the supreme luxury of escaping the crowds by listening and seeing Mother Nature.
